Believers Eastern Church Launches Free Healthcare Initiative for South Asian Slum Communities

Believers Eastern Church in South Asia marked International Women’s Day by organizing a free health check-up camp, aligning with the International Women’s Day health mission focused on women’s empowerment through health access. The initiative specifically targeted women and underprivileged individuals in the area, providing much-needed access to health-care services.

The camp addressed a critical need in the community, as recent studies show that 1.6 billion people across Asia and the Pacific lack effective access to health protection, particularly in urban slum areas. Children often fall ill, and because of financial constraints, parents struggle to afford proper medical treatment. Regular medical check-ups are a luxury beyond their means, leading to untreated illnesses and health issues. Identifying seven slum settlements in the area with 15 percent of the population living in such conditions, the church recognized the urgent need for intervention.

The camp welcomed more than 100 participants, who benefited from a range of services including blood pressure, diabetes, dental and eye tests. Free medications were provided, and symptomatic treatment was administered for various complaints. This initiative follows the pattern of successful community health programs previously implemented by Believers Eastern Church across the region.

President Signa Kamble of Divya Deep Social Society commended the initiative, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing health, particularly among marginalized communities. He highlighted the significance of physical exercise as a cost-effective means to maintain both physical and mental well-being. Several patients were referred for further treatment, signifying the importance of ongoing health-care access. Participants expressed gratitude to the parish for spearheading such a vital initiative, recognizing the profound impact it had on their lives.

The success of the camp was a testament to the dedication of the church believers, who played a crucial role in its organization and execution. Their commitment to serving the community ensured that individuals received the necessary guidance and support throughout the event.

Believers Eastern Church is an evangelical, indigenous church movement within Asia that GFA World, an international mission organization, works with to fulfill the Great Commission. More information is available at www.gfa.org.
